Questions to ask your surgeon

Who is my surgeon?

Would you be happy to know that your surgeon was being paid €50 per case. Due to the over supply of ophthalmic surgeons, especially in the U.K. clinics can now offer the procedure cheaper than ever before. A surgeon is flown to Ireland to do a list, often without having met the patients before the day of the procedure. The most important feature when choosing a clinic is undoubtedly the surgeon. Make sure he or she has the relevant qualifications and experience.

Are my cornea's thicker than 500 microns?

The FDA guidelines recommend that a patient is only suitable for LASIK if the cornea is thicker than 500 microns. If so SBK or LASEK should be discussed as a possible alternative. Insist on getting a copy of your corneal measurements.

Do you use Intralase?

This is the newest and most up to date technology which ensures the safest and most accurate results possible.

Do you use disposable instruments?

At Eye Laser Ireland we use only disposable instruments. This combined with blade free all laser intralase insures sterility and eliminates all risk of cross contamination.

If I decide to have LASEK, can I have both eyes done on the same day?

Unlike LASIK, the recovery period with LASEK usually takes 2-3 days. Sometimes full visual recovery can take weeks. It is not best practice to have a bilateral LASEK procedure done. Serious concerns should be voiced if this is the chosen option. Usually at least 1 week should be left between the first and second LASEK procedure.

Why should I pay more just because my prescription is higher?

Providing the procedure costs exactly the same for somebody who is highly short sighted as for somebody who has a low to moderate prescription. This bait and switch technique is used to advertise Laser Eye Surgery at a low price only for patients to end up paying significantly more.

Testimonials

For years I had wanted to have eye laser surgery to correct my vision. I was tired of my glasses; not being able to wear nice shades, being able to see when I went swimming or even in the shower! I had a consultation at a different clinic a few years previously but because of my large pupils I was told I was not suitable for surgery.
